Membership Information

Benefits of Becoming a Member

As a member of the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of New England, your organization will have the opportunity to lend its voice and expertise to help us achieve our shared goals. Whether addressing national issues in Greece, the United States, or here in New England, your participation ensures that diverse perspectives are represented.

From organizing cultural events and supporting fundraisers to planning the Greek Independence Day Parade, members play a vital role in shaping impactful initiatives. Together, we can influence meaningful change and make a real difference.

Eligibility and Application Process

Any association, society, or brotherhood in New England, excluding political party organizations, is eligible to apply for membership. The process includes:

  • Submitting an application to the Board of Directors’ secretariat along with:
    • A copy of the Articles of Organization.
    • A copy of the By-Laws and a list of active members (optional).
    • Verification of at least one year of active existence prior to application.
  • Deciding to register with the Federation, including submitting the names of three representatives (with flexibility to replace absent representatives for General Assembly meetings).
  • Providing written acceptance of the Federation’s By-Laws.
  • Paying a $200 registration fee and an annual subscription of $200 (subject to adjustment by the General Assembly).
  • Securing approval of the application by the Board of Directors. The General Assembly reserves the right to approve or reject applications based on the fulfillment of requirements.

If an application is rejected, applicants may appeal to the General Assembly. This requires:

  • A non-refundable fee of $200.
  • Submission of a detailed application with historical background, reasons for applying, and expected contributions to the Federation’s mission.
  • Approval by a 2/3 secret ballot vote of the General Assembly.

Expulsion of Member Societies

Expulsion is only possible through a General Assembly decision with a 3/4 secret ballot vote. The process includes:

  • A motion by the Board of Directors, supported by at least two member societies.
  • Notification to the member society at least one month prior to the General Assembly vote, requesting a written explanation.
  • Reasons for expulsion may include:
    • Violation of the Federation’s By-Laws.
    • Delayed payment of membership fees for over a year.
    • Dissemination of untruthful statements against Board members.

Membership Types

At this time, we do not offer different types of memberships. However, we are actively exploring options to expand and diversify membership offerings in the future.
